CHART 2025: Charlottenborg, Copenhagen, Denmark

For Chart 2025, i8 Gallery will feature a two-person presentation of works by Ryan Mrozowski (b. 1981, USA) and Arna Óttarsdóttir (b. 1986, Iceland). Both artists have systematic approaches to their practice, meticulously planning their works prior to creation and similarly blurring boundaries of abstraction and figuration.

Within Ryan Mrozowski’s new paintings, he explores elements of presence, absence, and perception. Foliage and fruit become abstracted in Mrozowski’s works, as the artist crops and repeats his motifs while using a single source image as a basis for his signature lyrical patterning. In Arna Óttarsdóttir’s weavings, she uses her own notebooks, which are filled with thoughts and drawings, as source material for her works. By incorporating sketches and less formal visual elements into the weavings, which are made by hand in her Reykjavík studio, Óttarsdóttir infuses her work with a spirited, personal energy.
